This was a satisfying end to the trilogy. While not everything is wrapped up with a bow, we do get endings for almost all of the characters we’ve gotten to know over the series. And while they might not all be good endings, they were satisfying ones. Plus the way that the love triangle was resolved was something new. I also found that I liked the main trio a lot more in this one. Will’s relationship with his sister especially did a lot to make him more palatable. Plus this book starts with a series of completely bonkers events and did a good job of keeping the momentum from that. I would probably say that this is my favorite book of the series.
I mostly read this series because I had a friend asking if it would be appropriate for their tween who wanted “dark romance”. And I think it works pretty well for that. If I wasn’t a jaded YA reader, I’m pretty sure that this whole series would have gotten four star reviews. There’s really great world building, and I did really enjoy the side characters. I’ll also give the author credit for resolving the love triangle in a way I didn’t expect. But while they did grow on me, the main trio of the series just didn’t quite draw me in nearly as much as the other characters. But it was a fun read, and it made it laugh out loud several times. Three out of five stars.
