This book is the second and final in the Highwaymen series and the fact that there isn’t a London Highwaymen #3 (and 4 and 5 and 6 and…) is a crushing blow. I loooove this world and these characters and would easily read a dozen more that showed additional POVs of the action we followed in the first installment, or expansions of other minor characters. Sebastian’s writing is sharp and fun, filling me with smirks, and the story is utterly charming, not to mention a perfect blend of cheeky/sexy.
The first book gave us a reformed rogue meets arrogant arristocrat love story. In this installment, we’ve got an un-reformed rogue and the duchess he is blackmailing for the murder of her husband.
Suffice it to say if you like Bridgerton you’ll likely dig this. These books are a similar cocktail of romance/humor/aristocracy with women being awesome, strong, and independent, despite societal convention. But add to that cocktail queerness and even more fun and you’ve got a major hit on your hands.
Pro Tip: I definitely recommend reading #1 and #2 pretty closely together. I knew that #2 followed one of the more minor characters in book #1, but I thought it was going to take us into Marian’s future, but it’s actually a concurrent story, filling in the details of what she did and what she knew about the events of book one. It had been about 2 years since I read the first one so I stumbled a bit getting going as I was trying to remember the cast of characters. Eventually I had to give up and read a summary of book 1 to skim to get me caught back up.
