There is a book for everyone and Henry (a kid who is not really into books) wonders if he will be able to find the perfect book for him in Griselda Snook’s Spectacular Books. Of course, he will (we know that most books for kids have a happy ending) and it is the getting there that is the actual journey. Henry, while helping the customers at Griselda’s bookstore, realizes how there really is a book for everyone. There are magic books, sports books, even joke books. And the joy of exploring is terribly exciting..
Barry Timms created a sweet, and slightly (not so) spooky tale about the love of books and community. Then Laura Borio added the splash of colors, details and the goofy illustrations (ever see a pumpkin used as a basketball by a couple of wolves?). There is always something hidden to see on each page. The Halloween spirit is alive (even if some of the customers of the store are not) but it can be a read for anytime for most ages (though at least five to eight would be the better age range; and of course adults will get a chuckle or two as well). .
As you probably know, I have a soft spot for bookstores, and probably fewer know I like spooky (in a not so spooky way) things (I have some cute spider and witchy cats on my desk…..a nice venus fly trap with pink hair will find its way soon…). Therefore, this book is a perfect combination of the two elements.
Currently available, I read via an online reader copy.
