I like trying to get all the Bingo categories as “pure” as possible. Even if I go with the spirit of things. And don’t like using Free Space if I can help it. It’s just a fun challenge for me. But I had the hardest time with Fan Fiction. But eventually I found one that fit perfectly! And since the category is way out of my wheelhouse, I was very excited! I wasn’t going to have to use my FREE SPACE. But I could have used this review as Fan Fiction as I am a fan of Alina Tysoe and she writes fiction. However, the found one not only fit perfectly, it was recommend to use and highly recommended at that, therefore, I canceled the use of this review for Bingo and made it another wonderful review for everyday reviews.
One of those pieces of fiction I am a fan of, is Tysoe’s What’s Up, Beanie?: Acutely Relatable Comics and Emi Isn’t Scared of Monsters. With one of her more recent ones, The Great Puptective V01 we have not our beloved Beanie, but a detective puppy, a grumpy cat and their crazy adventures. While I didn’t like it as much as I had hoped, Tysoe is still fantastic. Her Puptective is pure Beanie (if you are not aware, she is a young child/toddler/pre-teen/teen/(eventually) adult) who is also over-sugared, super excited, maybe not old enough to get the nuances of things, and takes it a bit too seriously and literally. Tysoe the (adult) character even makes an appearance in a fun cameo. Silly, fun and typical little kid antics. For fans of Tysoe, but also a fun early read to get your child into this author/illustrator. Plus, if your child likes mysteries, animals and humor. There are neat extras to show you how to do such things as draw our Puptective heroes. Everything is bold and bright, simple, easy, colorful, and crazy. It is screaming Tysoe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the way.
Now Cloud Puppy by Kelly Leigh Miller is being added to have a second fun and adorable read that means I might have a new author who I am a fan of and also writes fiction (or at least I don’t think that there are puppies who are half cloud-half puppy). This time that adorable story is about a cloud puppy and her equally creative mixed friends. Cloud Puppy is a typical Kid/Puppy, has friends, has arguments, likes to draw, likes to read, likes to help her mom. It is just all bubbly and a good time. Just AAAAAAAAAAAAWWWW! Except for the drawing part, Cloud Puppy and I are a lot alike (I am not a fluffy white cloud-puppy, who is tiny, cute and young). We even like going to fantasy/reading conventions. There are several chapters/stories which have their own unique adventure but are loosely tied together. We even have a few chapters about some of Cloud Puppies friends. Intermittently there are extras within the text and afterwards as well. The art is just as fluffy and sweet as you’d think a Cloud Puppy would be. Sometimes it can be a bit busy, but that is just adding to the fun.
Both were read via an online reader copy, though both are currently out. The Great Puptective V02 Purranormal Activity is due February 2025 and Cloud Puppy 2: Game On! is due March 2025. Puptective is great for the aged 5 to 8 reader and Cloud Puppy more young 7 to 10 reader.
