This book is gross. I read it because I saw an article on Pajiba discussing Salo, the film adaptation of this book. The author said it’s important to consume as art because of how challenging it is. I figured I could consume the book but knew I wouldn’t like the movie. I could indeed consume the book, but it’s stupid. This is the sort of book people brag about reading, and I’m not bragging. I’m scolding because I find this Eli Roth-style extremity for extremity’s sake to be a tired trope at this point. Maybe this book was a bigger deal when it came out and it was genuinely risky to produce, but as is it just sort of sucks, is unimaginative, and accomplishes nothing.
If you know, you know, I’m done talking about it. -10/10 will never bang again.
