I was reading a few online reader copies the other day. They were all amusing, each in their own way (or not as you’ll see below). They all have a future publication date, except one. And the first is not like the others since there are two authors/creators.
Hope It All Works Out!: A Poorly Drawn Lines Collection by Reza Farazmand is what it is! If you know/like Poorly Drawn Lines the comic, you can get your fix with all of these funny, thoughtful and something else, right here. There were a few that might be borderline not PC, there is some talk of drugs and use of, plus Bird has an unlit cigarette (Why? They don’t smoke) in its beak most of the time. The images are simple and have little to no details. The cover tells you all you need to know about that. Due late September 2024.

Then I found Andrew Shaffer and their Mothman Cryptid Holiday Classics. Or so far, Christmas and Halloween (one for Valentine’s is planned). Both were read online, but Christmas is currently out.
Mothman’s Merry Cryptid Christmas (Cryptid Holiday Classics) is more of a 3.5 due to the slightly limited audience. I mean it is meant for kids, but unless they are quirky, it might not “hit the mark” as hoped. And maybe not a lot of kids might be into cryptids, but adults into cryptids will appreciate it. And if you are quirky and odd-ball, some of the events will have everyone rolling on the floor. The homage to Rudolph the Reindeer is cute and the art is what is expected. Which is minimalist, but not lacking necessary. It is a “personal taste” situation and you might not love it, but like the story; or reverse; but most people will find something.
Then there is Mothman’s Happy Cryptid Halloween and due in early August (so SOON). Which is good because instead of giving candy to your kids you can give this treat. Mothman is back and this time, instead of helping Ol’ Saint Nick, they want the kids to come to their organic pumpkin farm and pick out pumpkins to carve. But all day it pours and ruins Halloween all around. Well our (moth)man knows what to do… or um… maybe not. It is a comedy of errors and goofiness.
Then there was The Secret Pet (Bad Books for Bad Kids). I did not realize it was by Andrew Shaffer. Now Mothman is a bit offbeat and a little off colored, but WHAT did I read? I’m sorry but I want to give this a rating lower than one. I usually appreciate the hard work and effort and time that goes into something but this time, even that does not make up for this sophomoric text/action. The thing is, you had me until the reveal. I mean, I liked it. Not loving, but liking. It was quirky, and I was thinking this isn’t going to be for me, but I know I can honestly recommend it. But when we find out what the secret pet is? I thought “THAT’S $*#$$^%%* DISGUSTING!” It was not amusing nor clever. Who hurt you, Andrew?? With that said, if you like gross, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out in another universe king of “humor” this is for you. Trigger: vomit
