Why We Celebrate Earth Day: Everything to Know about Your Favorite Holiday by Kelly Anne Mclellan has a lot of goodies included. It is good for the classroom and could be adapted for the individual. However, there was not a lot of new stuff to learn. You have pretty much seen the information before. With that said, there are a few activities you can do, and learning how to say Earth Day in other languages is fun and is new/fresh..

The main theme is to learn the history of the holiday. You will learn about things like it is the most celebrated secular holiday. It started in 1970 and how it was not an easy shot to getting the job done, and in fact, there is more to do. You see activities to upcycle with. There is a recycled smoothie drink. We also see how the world celebrates with their own special and unique customs. And there are even some modern references (Hello, Greta!)
The illustrations are nice, but I was not thinking they were the very best ever. They do have a child drawn look to them, but more sophisticated. Things are happy colored, mostly surrounded by text. Read slowly and appreciate how the art compliments the information. There is also a glossary to help with some terminologies used.
They are part of the Why We Celebrate series (which includes Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Hanukkah, Chinese New Year and St. Patrick’s Day). I read via an online reader’s copy, but in March 2025 I plan on looking for a final copy.
