Like comics? Like cartoons? Like fun mashups? See below for some possible fun.
So you like Batman? And you like Scooby Doo? Well, The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries, Vol. 1 is a fun way to get your fix of both. While we have the Batman villains, the Scooby Doo humor comes into play. Various stories (with Batman, different Robins, Nightwing, Joker, Batgirl and more, some new to me, or maybe just lesser known overall) intertwin the DC universe with the Scooby Gang. There is even a nod to the Scooby Gang when they were kids (the tiny round shaped ones that have Red Herring as the kids’ arch nemesis, with a very young sort-of Batman). Different styles of illustrations add to the fun. Our collaborators Ivan Cohen, Sholly Fisch, Randy Elliott (Illustrator), Darío Brizuela (Illustrator), Scott Jeralds (Illustrator) know their stuff and give us several stories to have fun with.
So you like Batman? And you like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Well, first, which version of the Turtles? Old school? Then Greener on the Other Side (Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures) will be a little disappointing. If you like the movies or anything contemporary (within the last oh, 10 years or so), Matthew K. Manning and Jon Sommariva’s solo story will be fine. However, I think this might be at least the second book in a series of Batman and TMNT together stories. This story is the four Turtles, Batman, a Robin, and a Batgirl fighting Shredder, his gang, along with the Joker, Harely Quinn and Poison Ivy. There is a monster from the Turtles world that Ivy has attached herself to, and a hint at portals and the two worlds have somehow meshed.
The artwork of both graphic novels really fit their stories, the first is lighter and more Scooby Doo feeling, reminiscent of the cartoons of the 1970s and 1980s, whereas the second is more contemporary and a bit darker. The illustrations are terribly busy, dark in colors and lighting and hard to make things out. I’m looking into finding others in the Greener on Other Side story arch, but having issues, so any help is welcomed!
