cbr16bingo Golden (for the “golden rules”)
Superbuns!: Kindness Is Her Superpower by Diane Kredensor is a cute story about real superheroes. Or more accurately, what makes you, an everyday person, a “superhero” to other people. There are cute illustrations that are fairly simple, but still support the story. This allows you to focus on the text, but are still able to enjoy the art as it is not lacking in fun or details
Buns is a bunny who likes helping people in her community. The day she and her sister are taking a gift to someone, Buns seems to be dawdling and goofing off. And because of this, her sister is worried they won’t make it in time and the cobbler they made will get cold. Of course, Buns is just doing what she does best, and not even her bossy, know-it-all big sister can stop her. Which, of course, is a good thing (even if I resent the implications that only younger siblings can be heroes and we big sisters are the “semi-villain”). Because if Buns had listened to her sister, someone who really really needed help would not have gotten it. (And okay, since the big sister plays an important role here, I forgive the above implications.)
And as I said above, the illustrations are cute. They are goofy, correctly colorful, offbeat and really set the tone for things overall. They are colorful and really capture the reader’s attention. The ages are probably six/seven up to a young 10 for reading solo and/or with some help on the younger side, but most ages can have it read to them.
Though available, I read via an online reader copy. Same with the second book Superbuns: Kindness to the Rescue! which tells us you can never have too much kindness, but you can have the wrong kind of kindness or at least, at the wrong time. We have our favorite sister duo and new friends. I enjoyed reading, but this sequel was not as fun for me as book one.
