Belligerent twin sisters who wreak havoc on the Ton for their amusement as their own form of protest against Society’s chokehold on women.
Plot: Margo has carried the title of being one half of the Halifax Hellions for about 7 years now, since they were first introduced to society. Frankly, at this point it feels more like work than fun trying to keep thinking up new ways to outdo their previous shocking conduct. Just smoking a cheroot and tying cherry stems in knots won’t do anymore. Her sister seems to either be feeling the same way or the opposite because she has gotten herself engaged to some ancient gargoyle who drove his last wife to insanity and then an early grave. And they’re headed to Gretna Green right now. Who can Margo turn to other than her brother’s best friend Henry, the most sensible human being she’s ever met, to help her stop this wedding? Only one problem. The poor dude has spent nearly a full decade trying really really hard not to pine after her and failing. Also he knows that if he doesn’t take her to Scotland, she’ll just go alone. Shenanigans ensue.
This novella is short, but doesn’t feel too short. It’s fast paced, funny, and the characters have such a long history that it doesn’t feel rushed either. If you love a sexually experienced bisexual heroine and an inexperienced (but nearly supernaturally quick to learn) hero, this will be very satisfying on that front as well. There are some things that stretched my ability to suspend my disbelief (including getting down and dirty while within minutes of Margo’s treasured sister), but it’s so sweet and fun and well meaning that it’s just hard to be too fussed about any minor deficiencies. I’ll gladly pick up the next one for a short palate cleanser between longer novels.
