The hero’s name is Crash and somehow this is heartwarming. That’s Milan for ya.
Plot: Daisy’s got a dream that shit will suck less at some point. It hasn’t happened yet but there’s always tomorrow, right? And right now, she’s on the precipice of a new goal – her own business. All she has to do is win a contest no woman has ever entered and convince an audience of people who believe women belong in the home to believe her more competent than a bunch of dudes. Fortunately, she has the unwavering support of her ex and petty criminal Crash. Shenanigans ensue.
This novella is a sequel to Once Upon a Marquess and it’s so sweet. It will make you want to do violence on Daisy’s behalf but also shake her. She’s so dedicated and hopeful and brave but also Crash is an impossibly lovely dude and he uses the power of teaching Daisy how to ride a bike to help her develop confidence?! My heart! Let’s get real though, everyone’s favourite part of the story is going to be the women of Crash’s family of Golden Girls who mother the crap out of Crash while cheating at cards and slap sense into their ward.
I will say Milan fans will know off the hop how the story is going to evolve, for the most part. The reason for Crash and Daisy having broken up to begin with and how they resolve that rift came as a surprise, but was handled with classic Milan aplomb. It’s a fun detour from the main story and a lovely break from rich people problems.
