Books should be fun, but they can also be educational. Of course, if they are both you have the best of all worlds and memorable stories.
Farty Pants: A Stinky Book of Monsters by the team of Eric Geron and Dean Gray (illustrations) who are a gas (I mean to read with, not you know are gassy…then again…) It is currently available but I read via an online reader copy. Thankfully we haven’t gotten to “smell-o-book” yet, though there were sound buttons (that I was unable to access, which is probably a good thing as I would have gotten the giggles I’m sure). Filled with fantastically fun fart facts, this book has it all. It is great for the younger child (maybe they have extra toots on their hands, and you want to turn it into an educational moment) and good for that reluctant reader (first grade and below) or you have a budding doctor in the house and want them to know what the stink is all about. Part toy and part book, this is a great book to have in your library.
Of course, if you want to be educational and more serious, we can go with Huck and Loona by Emily Kilgore, with illustrations by Florence Weiser. The idea of friends having different feelings, thoughts, likes and dislikes and then arguing about how “the other one” is “wrong” and not their friend, is not a new theme. However, the fact that we have two animals that are radically different (a loon and a bear) gives it a fresh look and take on the subject. The borderline almost abstract/realism to the illustrations is a good fit for the story, and colors and details make things both comfortable, soothing and gives a little kick as well. (Read via an online reader copy, due late October/early November 2024).
Either way you go, both will be worth getting and reading a variety of times.
