I do not have this physical book or audiobook, so thank you to whoever this kind hand is! It wouldn’t let me upload the cover from Goodreads for some reason, so here we are!
OK so I read this as a suggestion from some website or another because of Earth Day. It was like “climate change books to read” or something benign like that. I was like “oh great, I’d love to have some updated suggestions on how to combat climate change.”
Boy was I wrong. It was just Greta’s speeches from all over the world for the past five or six years. They’re powerful speeches, but she’s totally not talking to me. She’s talking to Parliament, or Congress, or other governing bodies in other countries. She’s trying to get leaders to do something and pay for things that will affect climate change in a positive way.
She also tells them not to listen to her, she’s just a schoolgirl. She tells them to listen to science, which I’m a total sucker for! Her and her schoolmates are on a once weekly school walkout for climate change. She’s trying to describe their reasoning for not going to school.
Her speeches are filled with powerful words, but they’re also depressing. She talks about the Paris Climate Accord, which I believe we backed out of (Thanks Trump!), how in ten years we’ll reach an irreversible chain reaction with global warming, and other doom-filled things. I get it, things are bad. But I can’t make congress do anything. I’d like to get some inspiration on small things I can do to positively affect global warming, but this is not the intent of this book. Anybody have any suggestions?
