It turns out that I love T. Kingfisher. Anyone who’s read a post from me before probably knows that though. I think I got into Kingfisher with one of her weird books a few years ago. It was about a hole in the wall of an oddity museum that led to alternate worlds. I just remember my awe at this author who could scare me, freak me out, and make me laugh crazily all in the same book. I just keep reading her books now because of that first one I read, and I love them all. They’re all a different breed of weird though. Her Saint of Steel series is totally different than her other books though. Each book revolves around a specific paladin from the Saint of Steel order. They originally fought as berserkers under the direction of their god. Then their god died and they all went a little crazy. Some of them actually died.
Book 4 is about Marguerite Florian (who we met in Book 1), and the paladin Shane. They team up to try and thwart some big baddie who controls the price of something. Salt maybe? I believe it’s salt. They travel across the country / world and are met at every turn with adventure and baddies. We get to know the two main characters throughout the story and kinda fall in love with them. All the paladin books have romance, and this one is no different. It’s just handled in a different way than normal romances, and I really really like them. This book set up a kind of cliffhanger, so I really hope Book 5 is in the works!
