Ari Wright has written a delightful bonbon of an Omegaverse why choose romance in Knot Her Goal. It is the first in a series of standalone sports romances set in an Omegaverse world. (I included a definition below for those of you not familiar with the concept.)
Meg finds herself in desperate need of a job after being unfairly fired from a marketing job because of her Omega tendencies. The only place she gets an interview is with the football franchise Ospreys, which literally states in their job description they can’t have omegas because the entire organization is made up of alphas and they can’t guarantee the safety of an omega if the go into heat. Meg applies anyway because she’s that desperate.
Wackiness and sexy hijinks ensue. There’s an alphahole quarterback, a golden retriever running back, a caring and nurturing team doctor, and the billionaire owner/Daddy. I wondered as I was reading this if one of the characters is loosely based on Travis Kelce. (Someone else will need to figure out the timeline. Please let me know what you find. I am oddly invested in Taylor and Travis.)
Anyway, if you are looking for a fun, sexy read that requires absolutely no deep thought on your part, this is your book. And, that’s not to say there’s no personal growth – two of the characters in particular do experience growth. It’s just that while thinking deeply about that is not necessary to enjoy the book, it is there if you want it.
3.5/5 stars. Would recommend for a beach read or brain break. (I give it a 4 only because 3 is too low.)
*From Wikipedia: Omegaverse, also known as A/B/O (an abbreviation for “alpha/beta/omega”), is a subgenre of speculative erotic fiction, and originally a subgenre of erotic slash fan fiction. Its premise is that a dominance hierarchy exists in humans, which are divided into dominant “alphas”, neutral “betas”, and submissive “omegas”.[1] This hierarchy determines how people interact with one another in romantic, erotic and sexual contexts.
