Officially in May 2024 I will be a great-aunt. I have always been a great aunt, now I’m just going to be a great great-aunt! And of course the little pooper is going to get books galore. In fact, a baby shower request was to bring a favorite book. So, while I was ecstatic that we would be building a library before said rugrat was born, I also said, “One? I say, HA! You know not who you have challenged!: I will be putting together a basket of goodies and one of those items (as I will be doing this with the official great-grandfather/my dad) is going to be Grandpas Are the Greatest.
How I found this book in the massive list of titles, buried under of course the popular ones, was almost a miracle. While I was looking for a book for great-grandfathers, I figured grandfathers would be easier, and in the process of changing my parameters this odd “thumbnail image” caught my eye on the screen. It was a book by Ben Faulks and Nia Tudor (the delightful illustrator). I found an online reader copy, and said, it is not “perfect” but I like how it is modern, with a touch of classic (dad will like that). The story is about how grandfathers and grandchildren can do almost anything together. Fly, dance, eat, etc. They can also be loved. My dad is not going to be “the wild and crazy grandpa” but he (or if you have) will be an “old fashioned, gunna spoil you” grandfather, and therefore, this is perfect.
The colors are both bold and not too much. There are minimal details and what is needed to move it along. This is going to be a fun book to read and look at with babies and toddlers. It is cozy and a nice book to start a collection with. And of course, there is also Grandmas Are the Greatest by this duo.
