This book is a wonderful book, a classic, I have deemed it. I don’t actually know its status on whether it’s actually a classic, but that’s not important. I love the premise of this book, and I love the puzzles and the characters.
The solutions to issues are just fun, and mostly whimsical. When they get caught, it’s for a good reason, a well explained one. The character dynamics are fun, and the way they clash and mesh is just perfection. To list a few things I loved. I also really like the way the villain functioned, just because it felt reasonable, relatable, even.
The villain used escapism to exploit children which was just really creative, instead of the same trope of the same silly reason people go to the “dark side”, this one felt plausible. I don’t know, I just liked the implementation of the concept, because it felt… Realistic, I guess.
One thing I didn’t like about the book was that the main character, pretty consistently, was just a window to view the story. However, he did have opinions some of the times, which is better than some books.
Additionally, there was an excellent character, Constance, who napped all the time and was extremely grumpy for the entire story. She gave a lot of sass, which I really appreciate, and overall was encouraging chaos. She wasn’t my favorite character, necessarily, but I believe I should mention her, as she is iconic.
I would definitely recommend this book, to younger people specifically, but I think anyone could appreciate this book!
