I ended 2023 with two sequels read in the young adult category and a young early reader that is part of a series but it sounds like you can read in any order. Each one showed a part of my personality.
Though I do not think I am a teenage assassin (I really don’t like cleaning up messes and chasing/hunting people is soooooo much work) but I do like an escapist story and book two in the Teen Killers Club series, Teen Killers in Love, is that.
You see A LOT of escapes happen in this book. First, we remember how the teens escaped from being almost a victim of a former “camper” (recap: the teens of book one are recruited to become assassins in a “summer camp” like situation) and now how they are escaping their past. Signal, Erik and the gang are back and crazier than ever. We are still trying to clear Signal’s name (as it is proven to everyone in their group, but not the world, she is innocent of the crime that labeled her a Class A psychopath/psychopath). So, she and the others are torturing, possibly killing, being tortured and running around going to see Swan Lake. We finally meet some people who have only been mentioned and the Bonnie and Clyde style adventures continue. There are several, “Well ain’t that convenient” moments, but teen readers will just like the adventure.
I still am not keen on the whole “Damsel in Distress and Save Everyone” personality of Signal, nor do I like that she feels she can “change the psychopath with her love” but eh, whatever! Lily Sparks wrote something that was supposed to be fun and it is. However, it is not for sensitive or young readers. The use of violence and experimental drug use by the Director and the camp are amped up.
