This is the first physical book I’ve read since at least the summer. I read the most on my kindle in my bed, or listening to an audiobook in the car or going for a walk. My boss lent me a few paperback books, and I read this one in about two days.
The tagline is “Have you ever wondered how long it takes to dig a grave?”, but that’s almost the least exciting part of this book. The main characters are Erin and Mark, who are getting married. Mark has just unfortunately lost his job, but Erin is given some new job opportunities as a documentary filmmaker. They take their dream honeymoon to Bora Bora, but have to go for a little less time due to Mark’s job loss. He’s starting to come across to me as a dick at this point, but then he’s back to being a nice partner. I think that might be the framework for gaslighting and abuse?
Anyway, Bora Bora sounds amazing. They go on a private boating trip and find some scary things in a duffel bag in the water. The rest of the book is them dealing with what they want to do with it, about it, and suffering the consequences of their actions. Again Mark is coming off dicky, but we’ll see.
When they get back home, things are weird. They’re still dealing with the aftermath of what they found in the water. People are out to get them. Or are they? And at the end, Erin ends up digging a grave. I was super pleased with the ending.
