Kindle Unlimited REALLY wanted to make sure I didn’t miss Emily Rath’s Pucking Around. I’m so glad it was insistent. Pucking Around is a super spicy why choose hockey romance that is probably 150 pages too long but you don’t care because you like the characters that much and the spice is finger scorching.
Rachel Price is the daughter of rock and roll royalty and has worked hard to leave all that entails in her rearview. She is a medical resident that specializes in a holistic approach to physical therapy, especially for athletes with hip and knee issues. She is THRILLED when she gets selected to spend a year with the Jacksonville Rays, a new NHL expansion team.
Each of her new love interests represents a different romance trope, but Rath does an excellent job of building them as complete characters with detailed back stories and not just leaving them as an outline of a character. One of the things that I appreciated most is that in true polyamory fashion, two of the guys have their own love story transpiring during Pucking Around that is part of the greater relationship. The way that Rath navigates the growth of the greater relationship and its components only serves to enrich it and make Pucking more interesting.
I’m not going to say any more about Pucking Around other than that I hope you read it. Be sure to read the trigger warnings at the beginning because Rath does not hold back. The whole time I was writing this review, I was singing “This Girl is on Fire…” by Alicia Keys.
