Currently Patricia Field is known as the costuming consultant for the Netflix show Emily in Paris, Emily might be ridiculous but her clothes are divine. Her name may also be familiar from her work on The Devil Wears Prada, Younger, and Ugly Betty. She was the one who put Carrie Bradshaw in a tutu for Sex and the City. But for this little teen girl from the suburbs in the 90s Patricia Field was the name emblazoned across one of the coolest shops in the Village with the most intimidating salespeople. I had to pick up this memoir because the amount of embarrassing memories of hanging out in front of her store that were unlocked was horrifying, just a flood of dorkitude washing over me.
Pat in the City traces Patricia’s path from her childhood in Queens running a store in her backyard to her current ArtFashion Gallery in Manhattan with fashion needle drops along the way. Many famous names are included, from Keith Haring and Amanda Lepore to Brittany Spears and Beyonce. This was overall an enjoyable light read from one of the grand dames of cutting edge fashion.
