CBR15Passport, Genre (science simplified & how you can do it)
What Will I Discover is at the surface an easy story. It is just about scientists and what they know, but then it goes deeper into what they do not know. And our narrator starts explaining all the wonderful things that are still left to be discovered, and they might be the person to do so.
Tanya Lloyd Kyi has a sweet story about science and even a little about imagination. Yes, it says it is about STEM, but I do not like that term. The concept sure is great, but as a word, yucky! But the nice thing is the way it is presented is not “in your face” and pushy. In the art of Rachel Qiuqi, we see about whales, bones, the storms of Jupiter and more. But we also learn that we have questions still, like How do ideas pop into our heads?
This is done in sweet text and illustrations. They are easy but have a fun number of details to them. And while they are not overly colorful, they are brightly created. I am curious about other titles by Kyi but really am interested in the artwork of Qiuqi. For me they were sweet and cozy, comfortable. Due in May 2023 (I was able to obtain a reader copy via Edelweiss) this book is really for all ages as you can adapt it to the readers age (I would have had a blast reading to the kids I babysat with and being able to use it for a playtime activity as well).
