Another student review review. Here of Persuasion, which I have read now five times in the last year.
So I asked them to write a capsule review, a haiku or a limerick about it:
Lovely book with lots of marriage and relationships that people are either really excited about or not because of the money and land they possess.
There once was a girl named Anne
Third favorite of three in her fam
She almost got married,
But her dad got her harried
Now hopefully things go to plan
With her father out to Bath,
Anne can finally marry Frederick.
Good.
I did not finish
I have to over break, but
It seems quite alright.
Interesting read
A bit dull in my read through
A solid 4 points
I enjoyed reading Persuasion. I found it very entertaining because of the different relationships between the three sisters, Elizabeth, Anne, and Mary. All the three are kind of competing between one another or trying to get married to the best first. They are all trying to find their strengths, whereas Sir Walter is trying to perfect his weaknesses.
Persuasion reads as an 18th century episode of Friends. This is the type of stuff moms read.
The novel is great,
I’d give it an eight.
It has a really good storyline
involving people during this time
who are trying to find a mate.
A return from war
A past amor
The captain’s worth
No status from birth
Daddy’s girl no more
The novel just felt empty. It revolves around a problem that isn’t a problem and gets wrapped up far too perfectly.
I like the romance and the drama
The Elliot kids ain’t got no mama
There lost of incest and passive aggression
Anne wishes she could make her confession
But Frederick doesn’t wanna
It was heartwarming that the story was centered around a second chance at love and I felt that the plot structure was very engaging.
I liked that the novel focused on new beginnings and that in the end, Wentworth and Anne found love again.
I enjoyed the complex character relationships and how their actions continued to intertwine with
their relationships throughout the novel. Austen gave a good insight into the social classes of
Europe and applied the theme of vanity and self image as a major part of the characters lives.
I thought the book was good. I liked how there were many different love interests and possible
spouses between Anne and Wentworth, but they still ended up together.
