I am mostly sure I have read The Seasons Within Me before. I do not, however, think I have reviewed Bianca Pozzi’s story before. This book was read via Edelweiss and due April 2023
Now, even if I have reviewed this book before, I was in a different frame of mind. It is a few days before Christmas, I am trying to keep my happy on (why I have a bowl of Grinch poo on my desk), and I was in a mood where though this book is sad, it has a hopeful tone as well. The text of Pozzi is simple, a young girl has the deep grays in her life and it is raining only on her. But one day, she finds a friend who is also being rained on and gray. The two of them find a way to make the seasons go from raining and cold to an autumn breeze. And even when there is a cold, winter day or two, our girl knows that things will be fine.
And Pozzi’s artistic illustrations never grow overly colorful, but they change with the feelings of the scene. The publisher description calls them “delicate” and that fits them perfectly. Everything is soft, even if they are creating difficult emotions, thoughts, or scene. The cover is one of my favorites as it shows you what you are getting, but at the same time there are many surprise inside.
Working best for the at least aged five and up, this book does not lend itself to an easy read-aloud, but cold work if talking about feelings or a child is dealing with issues.
