Dudes, I read this so fast. Nobody says dudes anymore except for me. Sometimes I call my boss dude, just coz, and he’s like, Did you just call me dude? Anyhoodle, I read this book so fast, like super fast. There is something about this series that just gets to me. I love it. Even when it is not being the best objectively.
I was so happy when I found out that this book was in large part going to be about consequences just like I thought it would. Pip is still being affected by what happened six months ago, and the trial of Max Hastings is an ongoing concern that she’s still reporting on for her podcast (which she created because no one was getting her story right). With all that going on, her friend Connor’s older brother goes missing, and Connor and his mom ask her to use her new large audience to help them find him, and Pip can’t resist. She is very afraid of becoming that person she became during the Andie Bell investigation, and the resolution of that fear was very pleasing to me.
I also was continually surprised by where this story went, and I didn’t expect the overall ending at all! This series is just so pleasingly detailed. We see all of Pip’s investigation, her case notes, transcripts of interviews. I just love it so much! I’m very interested where we go next on Pip’s emotional arc, and where all the dangling plot threads will end up.
