BINGO – Series
The second installation in The Inheritance Games Series is The Hawthorne Legacy. This book picks up almost immediately after the events of the first book which makes sense. Avery has to live in her newly inherited house for a full year with minimal interruption in order to secure the inheritance she was given by a stranger just a few weeks prior. The games of the first book have served their purpose: the grandsons of the Hawthorne family have aired their grievances and secrets and become closer than before. But the games are never over for the Hawthorne family nor their departed grandfather.
The next set of puzzles are all about the grandsons’ uncle who died many years ago. Well, that’s what everyone thought at least. Turns out he is alive, and he does not want to be found. He has a shameful past that makes it impossible to come back to his family. But what could be so bad that he would abandon his family? As mysteries are solved and secrets revealed, Avery’s history and family are revealed to be more and more entwined with the Hawthorne’s than previously thought.
A lot of the puzzles and riddles in this book follow a similar pattern to the first. There’s not much by way of novelty in this book. There’s even a big, convoluted end of book twist just like the first one. The romances become even more complicated and messy but not in a way that is understandable. However, Avery remains a phenomenal character. And it was great to get more of her best friend, Max, in this book who added a nice touch of levity to everything.
At this point, I’m invested in the outcome of Avery’s story, so I’ll definitely be picking up the third and final installation of this series.
