Objectively Part of Your World is probably closer to four stars, but I had a really good time with it so I’m giving it five. This book was so uplifting and charming and cozy and swoony.
Firstly, before we get to plot, probably good to know that this takes place in a very, very, very light sff atmosphere, so there will have to be some suspension of disbelief, but honestly that’s not hard to do here (the idea, I think, was to try to create an approximation of a real-life fairytale). Our two main characters are Alexis, an ER doctor from a legacy hospital family who is trying to live up to her family’s expectations of her while dealing with the fallout from a long-term abusive relationship, and Daniel, a small-town guy who runs a bed and breakfast, and who is ten years younger than Alexis. They meet when Daniel rescues her from the side of the road and a one-night stand turns into something more. There is an abundance of cute animals and emotional catharsis and smooching and I want to live in Daniel’s town.
Oh, and also it’s funny!
I read another of Abby Jimenez’s books in September and I didn’t like it as much, so she does seem to be getting better as she goes. I don’t think I will be reading the two other currently published books from here because they don’t sound super like my thing (Life’s Too Short and The Friend Zone), but I am super glad I read this one. I am now very happily awaiting her next book, Yours Truly, which is going to follow Alexis’s best friend, Briana. It sounds really good.
