It is time for picture a book round up. Below are two radically different, but equally good titles.
Zap! Clap! Boom! The Story of a Thunderstorm is a poetic look at the excitement, softness, loudness, strength of a Thunderstorm. The start, middle, and ending of a storm are given by simple text of Laura Purdie Salas. Their work is complimented by Elly MacKay and their equally complicated, but familiar and comfortable, illustrations. The poetry of a storm comes to life in a way you might not have realized was possible. It is not a rush through book, savor the moment. Aimed at all ages, the at least five and up crowd will probably be best suited for it. Of course, we adults are an intended audience as well. This book would be perfect for a cozy read on a less than sunny day!
Have you heard of a Queen Elizabeth II? I hear she was a pretty wild gal. And in Queen Elizabeth: Volume 87 (Little People, Big Dreams) you see how she became that. Wanting to live on a farm, a young girl named Lilibet, was ready to be a princess. Then her uncle, King Edward, abdicated the throne, making Elizabeth’s father king and her heir. She would marry at 21 and by age 25 she would become Queen of England and one of the longest reigning monarchs. This short, but packed full of goodies illustrated by Melissa Lee Johnson and written by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, introduces us to the woman from a child to 2021. I am not sure if they will do a last-minute update, due to current events, but it is planned for late September 2022.
