Due to wordless format of Love V01 The Tiger, this review might contain spoilers:
The gorgeous illustrations that unfortunately (fortunately?) shows nature at nature’s best, by Federico Bertolucci, are the focus of the story as this is (as said) wordless. The reader follows a Tiger as it roams the jungle trying to find food and shelter, the food tries to escape (sometimes winning), and even the tiger tries to escape from various dangers. The distraction of a tiger allows other creatures to sneak in, but also the fact there are other animals means the tiger must watch out for themselves as well as for food.
The violent deaths of a panther, young primate, and more are graphically shown. There is no question to the intents of the animals and the ending is/could be disturbing for even the most mature reader. The introduction and end text (some from non-author) brings in the idea of love, but I saw nature being natural. There is no love or hate, just survival. And since, because love is in the eye of the beholder, each reader will find their own love representation.
The four is for the art, and a five could have happened if the natural acts had been more discretely done. Granted, they are not gratuitous, just what nature intended, but they are not pleasant. The colors are rich, lush, and represent the jungle. You need to read each corner, detail, and speck on the page. Colors and which animal is doing what is important. Even a leaf could be important.
I am not sure how the author Frederic Brremaud plays a role, as said, there is no text, but their contributions are included as well. This is not a one shot read in many ways, it is an art collection, it is not for everyone. This is an experience book for each person to experience in their own unique manner.
Also in this series, Love: The Fox; Love: The Lion; Love: The Dinosaur and Love: The Mastiff.
