In other news, I have no self control. I said I would likely hold off on this one for a little while, yet here we are. It’s part me coming around to the art style in this one and part me just wanting to satisfy my overwhelming need to collect them all. Mostly the latter.
But, reading the book, I was won over more by the art style than I expected to be. It isn’t as charming as that of the other Toy Story Little Golden Books, yet I’m assuming that’s because they were trying to match the aesthetic of the film more.
What I found most intriguing was that, like with multiple other written versions of the film, the entire Buzz/Zurg sub-plot gets tossed in favor of the easier to digest hero/bad guy plot. I’m still in the camp that’s undecided on whether I’m sold on the twist or not. Maybe if I could have a spoilery chat with the director to discuss the nitty gritty of how it all works out, as the logistics are what give me pause more than anything. Story-wise, I think the twist works well as a device. I just don’t know that it makes enough sense as it’s handled in the film.
Anyway, now to find the rest of the Toy Story Little Golden Books!
