Fox in Socks is one Dr. Seuss book that I somehow had avoided until I saw Wes Tank somehow turn this notoriously tongue-twisting book into a multi-minute rap. His Dr. Seuss raps were what reinvigorated my love for the author himself. Hearing those words in a rhythmic context only served to underline how well-written they were and had me wanting to revisit the books themselves.
Naturally, I had to try my hand at reading this book aloud. Reading it the old-fashioned way wouldn’t do. I begged my fiancee to let me read it to her, but she refused. So, instead, I read it to our dog Winston, and he even seemed interested the entire way through, despite my many stumbles. The warning inserted at the beginning of this book is definitely to be taken seriously; don’t be like me and try to go full-speed right out of the gate or you’ll flame out spectacularly. Granted, it’ll be fun as all heck to do so, but still.
If you’re looking for something to make reading fun for your kids or, better yet, something to make reading to your kids fun, you can’t find much better than Dr. Seuss’s Fox in Socks. Both you and them are sure to be laughing the whole time as you bumble and stumble to the finish line and feel your tongue crying for mercy. Then, afterwards, you can watch Wes Tank’s rap to see how it can be done with tons of practice. Plus, it’s kind of a bop. You’re welcome!
