When I found my notes for Aalfred and Aalbert I noticed it was Peachtree Publishers that started my online rabbit hole of finding books read via YouTube/online. You see (previous later for Miss Althea readings) I found a link to one Miss Terra Cotta Sugarbaker in the newsletter sent to me via this publisher. They were reading Aalfred and Aalbert for a Drag Queen Storytime. I had a few minutes to give to have a story read to me.
Now, the set up/Miss Sugarbaker’s presentation was not great, but the story of Morag Hood was interesting. Maybe it is just because I was reading an adult short story collection of aromatic stories, but this book gave off a feel of a platonic friendship with a hint of a relationship atmosphere.
Aalfred and Aalbert are two aardvarks. They keep different schedules, and like different things, but they both would like to share all of that with someone else. Long
story short, a bird character tries to get the two together, and they finally do. I am not sure how they will be friends with one being a day person and one a night person, but it looks like they will compromise. It is not OMG BEST BOOK EVER, but I liked it due to the having someone read a story to me. Yet, it is a 2.5 at best for my personal tastes.
The illustrations of Hood are basic, simple, colorful, but not what I am interested in personally. Things are cute, but not OMG SO CUTE! Unless that is the style you like. It is a book that is an acquired taste. You will love it or not. The publisher description says the book was originally published in 2019 in Great Britain. Therefore, any quirkiness I saw probably can be attributed to the different styles of British and American authors.
