Harry Potter and Who Thought Up These Challenges for Kids?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling

December 31, 2021 by The Chancellor Leave a Comment

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling My rating: 5 of 5 stars “The Goblet of Fire” always seems to announce a darker, more mature era of Harry Potter. I starts out all fun and games until the moment Harry finds himself involved in the tournament. Then things really escalate. I like that in this book we get to see two other schools from the magical world, although I wished we got more background and knew the characters better. It does expand […]

I Wanted This To Be Better Than It Was

Infinity Son by Adam Silvera

December 31, 2021 by The Chancellor Leave a Comment

Infinity Son by Adam Silvera My rating: 3 of 5 stars Imagine the X-men with Phoenixes and you have “Infinity Son”. It’s a world where some people are born with mutant powers and others make themselves mutants using the blood of magical creatures like Phoenixes. There’s a brewing conflict between those that are born with these powers and those that make themselves powerful. You can imagine that those who make themselves powerful are not doing it to better society. Then there’s the regular humans who […]

Harry Potter and I Want to Take These Classes

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

December 31, 2021 by The Chancellor Leave a Comment

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling My rating: 5 of 5 stars It wasn’t until this read that “Prisoner of Azkaban” really stood out as one of my favorite books in the series. The film adaptation was the first that I saw and has always been one of my favorite films, but this read I really found the story engaging and saw the merit that a lot of my friends give it as one of their favorite books. One of the […]

One of the true highlights of my reading life, and now I can share it with my son!

Bone by Jeff Smith

December 31, 2021 by ingres77 6 Comments

Begun in 1991, Bone is a landmark comic book. Originally published as 55 comic books, the story was eventually gathered together in 9 graphic novels before eventually being bound in one massive 1,300 page volume in 2004. I started reading Bone in the mid-90s, and have read the entire story multiple times. It is one of my favorite books of all time. Earlier this year, my son and I started reading it, and he’s fallen in love with it just as I have. He’s six, […]

There are Ostrich Farms?

142 Ostriches by April Davila

December 31, 2021 by The Chancellor Leave a Comment

142 Ostriches by April Davila My rating: 4 of 5 stars I went into this book not thinking I’d really like, and yet found myself absorbed into this weird world of Ostrich farming and family drama in the California desert. This book was the last pick for my library’s book club and I listened to in on audio. This may have positively impacted my experience with the book because I could zone in and out of it. There’s not a complex plot or even complex […]

Never Has a Book Tested My Patience and Paid Off the Effort in the End…Until Now

Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

December 31, 2021 by The Chancellor Leave a Comment

Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir My rating: 4 of 5 stars If you haven’t read “Gideon the Ninth” then why are you even reading this review for “Harrow the Ninth”? Stop right now and get reading. Then come back and read my reviews. “Harrow” begins almost immediately from where “Gideon” left off. Because the ending of “Gideon” was somewhat blurry, so too is the beginning of “Harrow”. We figure out pretty quickly that something has happened there is not only a timeline jump that […]
