“I’m on Aslan’s side even if there isn’t any Aslan to lead it. I’m going to live as like a Narnian as I can even if there isn’t any Narnia.”

The Silver Chair (The Chronicles of Narnia, #6) by C.S. Lewis

December 27, 2021 by narfna Leave a Comment

I think this might the book in this series I’ve read the least, even below the two books I actually don’t really like all that much (The Horse and His Boy and The Last Battle). It’s certainly the book I remembered the least. I remembered the broad strokes, but details had been completely lost to me, which means I didn’t read it enough to burn it into my brain like I did the others. What this meant is that I was able to read this […]

Mum’s the Bird

Malorie by Josh Malerman

December 27, 2021 by Caesar's Wife 2 Comments

Malorie is the sequel to Bird Box, which I had the pleasure of reading/reviewing in January 2020. Spoiler Alert: Bird Box ends with the discovery of a seemingly successful safe haven, a school for the blind, which is reached by Malorie and her two six-year old children after a harrowing trip down a river, blind. This book continues her plight, instead this time it’s a blind train rather than a blind boat. But I’m skipping ahead. In the opening pages of Malorie, we learn that […]

Some Wellness Resort porn for a year of no travel

Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty

December 27, 2021 by Wanderlustful Leave a Comment

Nine Perfect Strangers is a relatively recent (2018) Liane Moriarty novel. A high powered city career woman, Masha, has a heart attack and is born anew- she loses weight, finds new purpose and opens a small wellness resort in the countryside. The novel follows the arrival of 9 guests who will be staying for a week, all with slightly different backgrounds and goals for the week- there is a couple with marital problems (Ben and Jessica), a writer suffering a crisis of career and life […]

Murder goes on vacation

The Murder Stone by Louise Penny

December 27, 2021 by Wanderlustful Leave a Comment

Armand Gamache, the dapper detective from la belle province’s Surety de Quebec, is back in this fourth installment in Louise Penny’s series. This time Gamache is not in Three Pines, the idyllic but murder-y town in Quebec’s eastern townships, but Manoir Bellechasse, a lakeside hotel resort the next valley over. It is the height of summer and Armand and his wife, Reine-Marie, are celebrating their anniversary the same way they do every year, at the Manoir. The resort’s other guests are the Finneys, a snooty […]

I know its bad but I liked it anyway

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer Armentrout

December 27, 2021 by Wanderlustful 1 Comment

Fantasy is not my usual go-to, but it is one of my good girlfriend’s go-tos, so I usually rely on her recommendations, of this was one. It is not a short book (are any fantasy novels?) and initially had that ‘self-published fantasy’ feel. Once I was deeper in, however, man! I read this book on the bike at the gym, I stayed up late to finish chapters, I used this book as a reward was how into it I was. And at the same time […]

Girl Gone Viral by Alisha Rai

December 26, 2021 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I found Girl Gone Viral by Alisha Rai from NPR’s Best Books of 2020 List. This was my first experience with Rai’s work, but Girl Gone Viral is actually the second book in her “Modern Love” series. This was an interesting and well-written, modern romance novel. I enjoyed it enough to read another of Rai’s books almost immediately after finishing this one. I also appreciate that NPR is recommending romance novels with a little diversity in their characters and authors. Katrina is sitting in a busy coffee shop lusting […]
