I am hungry. (Of course, that is like saying, it is Tuesday on Tuesday.) And a fun snack is cherry or grape tomatoes for me. Therefore, when I saw the word tomatoes in the title of this picture book, I was
intrigued. In Tomatoes for Neela, Neela and her mother cook dishes and show how tomatoes play a role in foods of a culture. This task also shows how culture brings families together, even if one member (say, a beloved grandmother) is far away living in India and Neela is in America. Padma Lakshmi also gives us tomato facts (which might be my favorite extra in a book ever). The illustrations top it all off with gorgeous colors, details, warmth, and nods to the family inside. Juana Martinez-Neal compliments the text perfectly and these lovely images are right for the picking!
Book two is Tilda Tries Again by Tom Percival. Also, the illustrator, Percival introduces of to Tilda and her perfect world. A world that she loves just as it is. But of course, one day her world is turned topsy-upside-down, and Tilda has a hard time adjusting to this change. Of course, like Percival’s other books (like Ruby Finds a Worry) we know that she will find a way to take care of this situation. Due March 2022, this spring will find a great new book to add to 
your feelings book collection by Percival. The illustrations are what you expect from this series, sweet and funny with colorful images and the right number of needed details to compliment the text.
Finally we have book three, Pout-Pout Fish: Passover Treasure by Deborah Diesen. This is truly an adorable book about the Passover celebration and feast with child friendly terms
and tone. While slightly on the longer side than some other Pout-Pout books, this is worth the time. It might be a fun way to explain a friend’s holiday celebration to your child or to introduce it to the child for their first Passover.
All three books are great for all ages, however Tomatoes for Neela does lend itself to the at least five and up age range. The other two are easy to adapt to the age of the child.
