This one is a right one.
This one is…HOT.
Look, I like read a lot of smutty smut smut PWP and now, purged of some of my inner judgement around what “counts” and “doesn’t count” as “reading,” I’m pretty happy to talk about it. And let me tell you, this is a seriously sexy book that doesn’t pull a single punch. What’s that you say? You’re not melting enough? Let me introduce you to not one, not two, but three puppies who our faux-brooding hero is incapable of separating and therefore adopts wholesale. And yes, one is named Cerberus.
The plot is sometimes as thin as some of the get ups that Persephone dons. The rules of the city are inescapable except that they seem sort of flexible when the plot demands it. I’m not entirely certain if Robert’s Thirteen are actual gods or just sort of rich jerks who control a city’s resources???
By flipping between both Hades and Persephone’s POV, we avoid having to do too much of the miscommunication tango. We know what’s coming, and amusingly there are at least two or maybe three moments where they name what’s happening (they–duh–are falling for each other but Must Part). Everyone is an adult here and consenting to do very many adult things. Consent is never so sexy either [especially when, in what is definitely a bit of a first in my recent memory, one of the main leads actually opts out of a scene that she’d asked for, as she’s walking into it. Color me impressed!].
What exactly happened? Not a clue! Will I read the next one? You bet! I’m not sure about Robert’s usual genres but one can also hope that Eurydice will drop that drip Orpheus and get together with some hot muse or minor demi goddess…
