I needed a distraction and the best way I can find is to get lost in a book. I can binge books the way people binge Netflix and I managed to finish this book in one day.
I didn’t binge this book because I couldn’t stop reading, I needed to keep reading as a distraction and this book was a good option.
The story itself is a lovely tale about being able to travel to different dimensions or versions of the same place. In this case it is London. Three (or four) different London’s to be precise. There is a very interesting thief who manages to manipulate a magician into taking her to the other London’s even though it is not allowed or supposed to be possible. There are villains, evil, good people, death and gorgeous world building of Victorian London.
I finished the book and I didn’t have the overwhelming need to continue the series. I’ve gone on benders where I have read entire series back to back because I couldn’t part with the world or characters or needed to know how it ended. And when I finished this book I liked it, but it didn’t stay with me, it didn’t haunt me or jolt me or make me feel anything. All I can think is that I’m indifferent. But I know there are many people who adore this book and series and so I do highly recommend giving it a go so that you can judge for yourself.
V.E. Schwab has written one my most anticipated books The Invisible Life of Addie Larue, but I decided to save that for my next 13 hour road trip. Here’s to happier reading.
