I did not realize until I was finished this book, that it’s actually #2 in a series. It didn’t really matter in terms of 
this story, but there’s a part of me that gets really irked by reading books out of order (even if the connection is loose).
The Proposal starts at a Dodgers game, where Nikole is surprised by a scoreboard proposal from her boyfriend of five months… in which he even spelt her name wrong. She has no problem refusing the proposal, but an instant media frenzy begins.
She is mercifully rescued and whisked away by Carlos, who is at the game with his sister. Despite the immediate connection between Carlos and Nikole, they both agree that the best relationship for them is a casual one – a rebound for her, a fling for him, nothing serious and no strings attached.
OBVIOUSLY lines get blurred as he meets her friends, and she is supportive during a crisis in his family. OBVIOUSLY one of them puts on the brakes because this isn’t what they agreed on. And OBVIOUSLY things end up in the exact way that you’d expect. This is super predictable chick-lit, but it is also really entertaining. It was a quick read that I enjoyed, despite the fact that I could have predicted the plot by chapter 2. I did really appreciate that neither of the main characters were white, which is something that this genre desperately needs more of.
If you’re looking for something edgy and unique, with plot twists galore, this probably isn’t it. Headed somewhere warm on vacation and want an easy beach read? Take this along… but maybe pick up book #1 first. 😉
