I meant to post this before Christmas, yet the reason why I wanted to is just as valid for other times of the year as well. I love books that are in the “8 X 8” size. 
You know the type: they are square and usually about popular culture. Berenstain Bears, Peanuts, Fancy Nancy, Superheroes, current movies, you name it, it has probably been used.
Why I am picking Lose the Blanket, Linus! Peanuts is because it was the one recently read from this genre of books. They are perfect for that “little something” you need as a stocking stuffer. Or that “little something” you want instead of candy for Valentines Day. Or you need a quick book or two because you are being Aunt-sat that weekend and you do not remember where you put the ones you had from last time.
We are most likely all familiar with the dilemma of Peanuts siblings Lucy and Linus. Linus loves his blanket; Lucy thinks her little brother needs to give it up. The usual antics arise in this adaptation of Charles M. Schulz’s story. Tina Gallo captures the feelings and actions we have seen in other books and specials but puts a modern twist on the “comfort item” many children have, be it a blanket, doll, etc.
If your younger child is having issues with giving up the “comfort” this will tell them that eventually they will not that security item and it is okay until then to have it. And it might help other Lucy’s in the family to deal with the whys and such of needing the item.
Robert Pope is billed as the illustrator and the modern look with classic love pops off the page.
