This is book five of the Andy Carpenter series. I borrowed the audiobook (on CD) from my library. I’m reading this series in whatever order I can grab the books. I think I read 1, 2, and 8 already. I have books 4 and 6 at my house from the library, but I just DO NOT read real books anymore. Especially hardcovers – they’re so heavy! I’m generally a laying down reader, and real books tend to fall on my face. I like to read until my eyes close 🙂
Aaaannnyway… Andy and Laurie are broken up in this one. I’m guessing it happened in the book right before this, because it seems fairly new to him. I guess if I get around to reading my other library books I’ll get the whole story! Laurie has moved back home to Wisconsin to become the chief of police in her hometown.
Laurie calls Andy with a potential new client. The son of a family friend of hers is accused of murdering his girlfriend. Laurie believes he’s innocent, and knows that Andy will do a good job defending him.
There’s also a whole cult-like religious sub story here. Of course Andy is intrigued by a potentially innocent client, so he takes the case and moves to Wisconsin for a few months with Tara (his pup). It’s a pretty interesting story. The religious angle was good, and there were a bunch of shady characters.
Throughout all of this, Laurie and Andy are working through their feelings for each other. They’re together, then they’re not, then they are again. They know they love each other, so they decide to do long distance. I’m sure it’ll all work out! 3.5 stars.
