Three Cheers for Kid McGear!: (Family Read Aloud Books, Construction Books for Kids, Children’s New Experiences Books, Stories in Verse) by Sherri Duskey
Rinker is another book in the Goodnight, Construction Site series. It is another book telling you, “Just because you are small, you can do some big things.” There are no surprises. It is straight forward and sweet. Like vehicles? You will enjoy meeting the new friend. What you love about AG Ford’s illustrations are here. What you love about Sherri Duskey Rinker’s stories is here. A comfy read and a comfy story.
Yet, I enjoyed this book. You know what you are getting and that makes it a nice, simple read. You do not have to think too hard about it. You know your child will enjoy seeing the construction vehicles, they will enjoy seeing the danger their new friend helps the other vehicles out of. And even though it has the rescue adventure, you can read it as a bedtime story or an anytime story. It works well in a group or individually reading. And a slightly more advanced reader could start to read on their own (most likely with assistance).
Kid McGear the skid-steer rhymes their way into the hearts of their new friends and you the reader. While aimed at the younger reader, any age can find something in it. Also, Kid McGear shows you that even females can work in construction (gear power at its best). Three Cheers for Kid McGear! is not only fun, but educational without really realizing you are learning a lesson (or at least to the younger reader).
