I took my niece to something my library calls Dog Tales on Monday. Once a month they bring therapy dogs into the library for an hour or so, and have kids who are just starting to read sit on the floor with the dogs and read to them. It’s pretty awesome, because obviously the dogs don’t judge how well the kids are reading. The kids gain confidence in their reading and get to pet some really cute dogs at the same time.
So I got to hear Nora read this adorable book (that she got as a gift from her reading tutor) to two very cute therapy dogs, and spend some quality time with my niece and those aforementioned doggies.
I got to watch and participate in Nor’s older sister Olivia learning how to read. I took her to dog reading too, and it was really rewarding. They both love dogs, and I’m trying to help foster a love of reading in both of them. Olivia absolutely loves reading now, and we’re still working on Nora. I’m going to keep taking her to dog reading. She was an absolute champion. There were kids running around everywhere, shouting, grabbing candy, petting dogs, and just generally being loud and crazy. She sat there and read like we were in a quiet room alone. I was so proud of her.
So to review this book – Little Critter and his sister pick out Halloween costumes, they almost carve a pumpkin (she doesn’t want her pumpkin to get hurt), and they go trick or treating. In the end they share their candy. It’s a cute story, and I loved to hear it twice from my cute little lady:
