Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Pena (with illustrations by Christian Robinson) is a quaint story about a grandmother and her grandson 
and their relationship. It is also about the very special things they see along the way to an equally special event.
What seems a simple story (a day out with the grandson) turns into a story about giving back when you can. It is about seeing that a bus ride can give you a unique iPod, smiles, friends and more. It is about the city around them. It is about actually seeing all that is around you.
The quirky illustrations of Robinson add to the charm of the story. They are not exactly what you would expect from a book that talks about the beautiful things around us. They are a bit abstract to be honest. However, that is their beauty. They have great color, lines and move the story along at a unique pace.
Robinson has also illustrated books by Margaret Wise Brown, Adam Rex, and Cynthia Rylant (among other authors) as wells as his own works and Carmela Full of Wishes also by de la Pena. His style is steady among them all. Which is interesting due to the fact I am not always a fan of his work. This time, however, they are the perfect addition to the text.
Winner of multiple awards, de la Pena’s classic style for his picture books is also present. If you enjoy his other works, you will find a lot to love here as well.
