Soon, the store I work at will be putting out a holiday newsletter. We are picking books we like, checking them twice and writing our reviews. And one book that will see space on the limited pages is I Love My Glam-Ma!
I am sorry Samantha Berger, this missed its mark for me. While there is a lovely story about glamour grandmas it is limited. Now, my grandmothers were pretty darn (only I am not saying darn) glamorous. And they were indulgent like grandmothers tend to be (after all I kinda was a favorite grandchild of both, even if I had to give the Mother’s Day card to one to prove it). But they were not the type of glam you speak of here. And honestly, not all grandmothers are glamorous. Therefore, you need to think your grandmother fits the types shown on the pages.
However, the illustrations are glamorous. They are bright and interesting. They are the type of glamour that is not GLAMOUR but glamour. We see the grandmothers getting down and dirty, making reading forts and cooking. There are all shapes and sizes and styles of grandmothers. And there are all types of grandchildren. Sujean Rim makes happy, busy illustrations and yet, they are cozy, too. They are like the grandmothers on the pages.
As mentioned above, at least one of my coworkers enjoys this book. Which is great, now I know her tastes and if I have a customer whose tastes do not fit mine I know have a book to recommend.
