Once you tell the story of As Warm as the Sun and Llama Llama Mess Mess Mess, you have said it all. There is not a lot going on in each story,
but there is enough for the right reader.
Kate McMullan and Jim McMullan decided to talk about a new sibling. However, the twist is the new sibling is in the format of a new puppy. And the older pup is about as thrilled as expected that this interloper has stolen their warm spot in the sun, crowds onto his lap and enjoys the warmth of the fireplace. As Warm as the Sun takes on a new meaning after our pup decides that maybe the new dog-about-the-house belongs, but he does not and banishes himself to the basement. And one cold corner gets heated up when a loving rump decides to show that the house is big enough for two.
And our lovable Llama is back up to his old tricks and antics in a new and typical Llama Llama story. After a very scary thought (caused by a large Llama Llama mess), Llama learns the value of cleaning up after themselves! After all, when you have space picked up after you have had a hard day of play, you have MORE space to play with Mama. Anna Dewdney and Reed Duncan’s charm comes alive on the page. The bounce of the text and explosion of the illustrations are still there giving your Llama reader the comfort they have loved from the start of Llama Llama coming into your lives.
As above mentioned, these are simple stories. Great illustrations and a good solid story. But there was not a lot for me to say about them. They are cozy books. You read a few times, you find them when your grandchildren come around, you might pass them onto your local library. Will they become a classic? Probably not, but that is okay. They are doing what they were made for, to bring joy when you read them.
