My sister gave me this book to read after she read the entire thing on our Christmas vacation at the end of last year in like two days. She loved it, and she wanted me to love it too. Unfortunately my to be read pile was waaaay too high, and it takes me a while to read “actual” books, so it took me a while to get to this book. Fortunately though, I read it in two days! It was really good. I liked the characters a lot, and I really liked the story.
This is the first in the Aaron Falk series. He’s a Federal Agent, and he’s summoned to his hometown by the father of his old friend Luke, who was recently accused of murdering his entire family and then himself. Falk doesn’t really know what to think, and he really doesn’t want to go back home, as he and his father were run out of town decades ago.
There are a bunch of ooooold secrets that nobody wants unearthed, and then a hefty dose of new secrets to add to the mystery. Falk teams up with the town’s new sheriff who really doesn’t believe that Luke killed his family. They start figuring out what really happened, and the more they learn, the worse it gets.
The title of the book refers to a terrible drought ripping through the town causing mass depression and job loss. The river that played a pivotal part in their childhood is actually dried up when Falk gets back to investigate the murder. I really liked this book and I recommend it to others! I actually handed it off to my book loving friend!
