I’m writing this review and my previous one back to back. It’s only serving to prove my previous hypothesis – I read a lot of books about people being gaslit! I actually enjoyed this one though. The people were much less dumb than the previous one.
So we’re introduced to Emma, a “typical” wife and mother, but she has a secret. Well, she has a few, but there’s one big one. She murdered her art teacher that she had an “affair” with when she was fifteen. I put affair in quotes, because it was obviously statutory rape, and he was obviously a predator.
Throughout the story, we see Emma start to unravel. We read the events from Emma’s, Alex’s (her husband), and Luke’s (the rapist) points of view, at varying time periods. We go way back to when Emma met Luke, up through the present. I liked the character development, and I liked how you could feel Emma’s world slowly coming apart.
I’m using this book as my Reader’s Choice square for cbr11bingo. I know I’m never going to read a collection of stories, so it’s going to cover The Collection square on my bingo card. Thanks Silent Victim! Oooh, also, at one point the main character says something along the lines of “I’m the silent victim blah blah blah”. One of my favorite things (I know it’s dumb) is when the title of the book is mentioned in the book!!! I give this one 3.5 stars because it kept me guessing.
