I have been following Melody Lee on Facebook for a while now. I loved reading her poetry. Unfortunately, once I found a full collection and not just her snippets, things were not as strong. Not to say, at 
anytime was I not enjoying myself, but her style is solidly her in Season of the Sorceress: Poetry and Prose and maybe not what I as expecting from the cover (created by Mitch Green) and what I was aware of with her (basically meme) poems.
Her work is modern poetry. The stories she tells in her poems can be complex but told in accessible language. Yet, you have heard them before. Several times I was thinking that I could have written these poems. Her style is straight forward, not a lot of what one might think of as stereotypical “flowery poetry.” I am a believer that poems do not need to rhyme, but she has included a few rhymes, but those almost feel accidental. One or two poems almost felt like and angsty teen was writing them, not an adult who has actually lived what they are talking about. In short, they are very casual sounding. I use contractions, (I’m not going/Don’t step in the dog-doo-doo), but she uses them regularly, as if you were having a conversation with the poet herself. As if you two were frineds that were talking about lovers, feelings and how you are connected to the moon and earth.
Her themes are repeated throughout the book. This ties this collection together. As does the few section breaks accented by extreme sketches throughout book. And by extreme, I do not mean negative, but art pieces that (without color) can really speak to you, or blend into the background.
