Remarkably You by Pat Zietlow Miller and Celebrate You! by Sherri Duskey Rinker are two books to add to the “be yourself” books and the “you are great as you are” books.
Patrice Barton illustrates Remarkably You with colors and details that accent the rhymes, sing-song text and the bouncy feel of the story. While, the subject is not new, the way Miller has presented a slightly older tone that makes the subject a bit more series than many on this subject. And the way Miller presents it, is cozy and nice. Miller’s story and Barton’s illustrations create a book that shows different races and people well.
Celebrate You! has a cute rhyming story that celebrates all the wonderful things about You. In many ways, this would be a fantastic graduation gift for preschool or kindergarten. The younger tone of the “moving on/growing up” would work well for the preschool up ages. It could also be a big moment gift (moving to a new house, going to school for the first time). There is a cake with three candles, so that too could be an idea for a gift time. It’s sweet and modern ideal of celebrating a child. A.N. Kang’s illustrations about a penguin and their family has some quirky details to look at.
Both books are on the medium to longer side with their lengths. That, and lack of traditional action (little “moving and grooving” like jumping and such) might make the younger child or more active child less likely to sit for the full reading. Most likely works best one-on-one, unless read at a graduation.

If you wish to give to an adult, this would make a lovely bridal gift as well.
