The library trip of mine were I picked up some books, it was most fruitful in another ways. I also read a book on the way up the path to the crosswalk. A local magnet school and the library had paired up to do a Story Walk. This is when a book is put on signs (two pages at a time) and you read and look at the pictures as you walk along. This time it was Viloet’s Music by Angela Johnson.
As I carefully walked and read, I thought “What an idea! A way to move as you read.” The “end pages” also said there was a second Story Walk at the main rec center. And you better believe, I will find my way there soon. This story was of Violet and her love of music was perfect for the sunny day. But it was also a just a great book for a rainy-day story-time.
A good story and fun illustrations by Laura Hulisk-Beith makes this story of music, finding your people and just being you a great read for ages three and up. Violet from the moment she is born is always trying to find people to play music with her. From her crib in the hospital, to the beach, to the streets of her home, Violet keeps playing. Until one day, she and her guitar hear a drummer, singer and a few others who are playing their songs, knowing that someday they will find their people who will make a band.
Poetic, colorful, silly and lively, the right amount of details make this a story to enjoy anytime, anywhere and anyplace.
